The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has announced that its full ruling on Senegal’s appeal against the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to strip the country of its AFCON 2025 title is expected at the end of November 2026.

What happened in the final

Senegal originally won the AFCON 2025 final 1-0 against hosts Morocco in Rabat. However, CAF later overturned the result and awarded the match 3-0 to Morocco, stripping Senegal of the continental title — a decision that sparked outrage in Dakar and set up one of the most closely watched legal battles in African football history.

The closed-door hearing

CAS confirmed that the appeal hearing took place on October 8 behind closed doors in Lausanne. Both the Senegalese and Moroccan football federations presented their cases before the arbitration panel, with Senegal seeking to have the original 1-0 final result reinstated.

What comes next

The court’s full award is expected in late November 2026. Until then, Morocco remain the officially recognised AFCON 2025 champions on paper, while Senegal wait for a verdict that could either restore their triumph or close the case in Morocco’s favour. Football fans across Africa will be watching Lausanne closely when the decision lands.
