Hollywood is split over a performer who has never been born. Tilly Norwood — billed as the world’s first fully AI-generated “actor” — will appear at the NDTV World Summit 2026 in New Delhi on October 22 and 23, and the debate around her is only getting louder.

Who Is Tilly Norwood?

Tilly Norwood is an AI-generated character created by British producer and actor Eline van der Velden, founder of the AI production company Particle6. Van der Velden introduced Tilly at the Zurich Film Festival’s Summit in 2025, describing her as a new form of digital performer. She has said she built Tilly to bridge the gap between the tech and entertainment industries, arguing the creative industry must stay ahead rather than be taken over by the tech industry.

Hollywood Pushback: “Not an Actor”

The arrival of an AI “actor” drew sharp criticism from performers’ unions. SAG-AFTRA, the American actors’ union, said Norwood is not an actor but a computer-generated character, warning against replacing human performers with synthetic ones and raising concerns about performers’ work being used without proper consent or compensation.

The Glitch That Went Viral

In a recent interview with broadcaster Piers Morgan, Tilly appeared to glitch mid-conversation, suddenly switching to Mandarin while answering a question about her film “Misaligned.” The bizarre moment left Morgan and fellow guest Tom Conti visibly confused, and the clip spread rapidly online — with critics saying it exposed the limits of AI performance.

What Happens Next

With talent agents reportedly interested in signing the digital performer and unions pushing back, Tilly Norwood’s appearance at the NDTV World Summit 2026 is set to be one of the most-watched sessions on the future of entertainment.
