Rajinikanth Watches Jailer 2 With Fans After 40 Years
Superstar Rajinikanth watched his blockbuster film Jailer 2 alongside fans at a Chennai theatre on Friday night, marking the first time in 40 years that he has watched one of his own films with a public audience. The rare outing, at PVR Cinemas inside Phoenix Marketcity in the Velachery area, was shared by production house Sun Pictures on social media on Saturday, and the video quickly went viral.
A Rare Night Out With Fans
Rajinikanth arrived quietly at the multiplex on Friday night, accompanied by his grandson Linga and the film’s music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Dressed simply and escorted by a small security detail, he was welcomed by the cinema team before heading into the auditorium to sit among regular moviegoers.
Sun Pictures marked the occasion on X, writing: “For the first time in 40 years, Superstar Rajinikanth joins fans to witness Jailer 2 on the big screen! Jailer 2 Industry Mega Blockbuster.” The video showed the 75-year-old superstar being escorted into the theatre as fans cheered.
Why 40 Years Matters
According to reports, Rajinikanth generally watches his films privately rather than joining audiences at public screenings. The last time he sat with fans to watch his own film in a theatre was four decades ago, with reports pointing to his 1984 hit Nallavanukku Nallavan as the previous occasion.
A member of the film’s team later told reporters that Rajinikanth thoroughly enjoyed watching the film in a packed theatre, that fans were understanding, and that a few lucky admirers even got photographs with him. He was safely escorted out before the audience dispersed.
Jailer 2’s Box Office Rampage
The outing comes as Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and released on October 15, continues its successful theatrical run. The film has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the worldwide box office, with its India net collection reaching Rs 334.35 crore after eight days, according to trade trackers cited in the reports.
The film has also drawn praise from across the Indian film industry. Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh, writing on X during the interval of his own screening, called it a “Maha Blockbuster” and praised Rajinikanth’s aura, later describing the theatre experience as a celebration of superstardom.
