Shah Rukh Khan’s King Earns Rs 665 Crore Before Release
Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action film King has reportedly earned Rs 665 crore through pre-release deals before it even reaches cinemas, making it one of the biggest commercial ventures in recent Hindi cinema. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24, 2026.
According to trade reports cited by Pinkvilla and Sacnilk, the reported Rs 665 crore comes from a mix of theatrical distribution, digital streaming, satellite and music rights. The Indian theatrical distribution rights were reportedly acquired by Pen Marudhar for Rs 250 crore, while Dubai-based Phars Films secured the overseas rights for a reported minimum guarantee of Rs 175 crore — a figure trade reports describe as a record for an Indian film’s overseas business.
The Rs 665 crore breakdown
The reported breakdown also includes Rs 150 crore from Netflix for the film’s digital streaming rights, Rs 65 crore for music rights and Rs 25 crore for satellite rights. Reports add an important caveat: the Netflix agreement is said to include a theatrical performance clause, meaning the final value of the streaming deal could change depending on how the film performs at the box office.
Trade estimates further suggest that King faces a steep box office target. Based on the usual domestic-overseas earnings split for Shah Rukh Khan’s films, reports estimate the film would need roughly Rs 500 crore in domestic gross and Rs 300 crore overseas — around Rs 800 crore worldwide — for its theatrical partners to break even. These are reported trade estimates, not confirmed break-even figures, and the reported pre-release business should not be confused with net profit.
Star cast and Kareena Kapoor’s return
King is also significant as Shah Rukh Khan’s first on-screen collaboration with his daughter Suhana Khan. The ensemble cast includes Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi, Raghav Juyal, Saurabh Shukla and Bobby Deol.
Kareena Kapoor Khan confirmed her own presence in the film in a birthday post for Shah Rukh Khan on November 3, 2026, marking their reunion after Ra.One in 2011. Producer Gauri Khan responded to the post by writing that it was “going to be insane.” Reports say Kareena will appear in a special song with Shah Rukh Khan.
First song and Ed Sheeran connection
The film’s promotional campaign gained momentum on November 2, when Shah Rukh Khan celebrated his 61st birthday by unveiling King’s first song, “Tu Mil Jaaye.” Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed that he wrote and recorded his own verse for the song, adding an international dimension to the film’s music launch.
Reports of the film’s budget vary: Moneycontrol puts it at around Rs 300 crore, matching Shah Rukh Khan’s previous big release Jawan, while other trade reports suggest the cost has risen higher once production changes and the star’s remuneration are included. Whatever the final figure, King’s reported pre-release business has already set up December 24 as one of the most closely watched release dates in Bollywood this year.
